What is active release techniques (Art)?
ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, auto accident injuries and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused or injured muscles.
Michael Leahy DC, CCSP of Colorado Springs, developed ART. He realized that by adjusting misaligned/injured joints, he was only addressing part of the problem for his patients, many of who were athletes.
By using his education in physics and mechanical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and anatomy, physiology and biomechanics from Chiropractic College, he identified how connective/soft tissues break down forming adhesions and scar tissue. This explained why many of his patient’s symptoms were not clearing with physical therapy and adjustments alone.
Once this was realized, the solution became evident. ART uses active patient participation. While the practitioner applies contact in specific locations, the patient actively moves a body part or region to release fibrotic scar tissue or trapped nerves to their normal physiologic function.
